Who Should Consider Tattoo Removal?
Ideal candidates for tattoo removal are individuals looking to remove unwanted tattoos for personal, professional, or aesthetic reasons. Suitable candidates generally have realistic expectations, are in good overall health, and understand the procedure’s potential outcomes. Factors like skin type, ink color, and tattoo location are considered to tailor the treatment effectively. It’s essential for candidates to have a consultation with our specialists to discuss their goals, potential risks, and the customized treatment plan designed for optimal results.
What to Expect When Getting Tattoo Removal
Undergoing tattoo removal begins with a thorough consultation to evaluate your tattoo and skin type, followed by creating a personalized treatment plan. The procedure is performed using a laser that emits pulses of light energy to shatter the ink particles. Most sessions last between a few minutes to an hour, depending on the tattoo’s complexity. Patients typically describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin. The number of sessions required varies, with treatments spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the body to eliminate the ink particles.
Preparing for your procedure
Preparation for tattoo removal is crucial for a smooth process and optimal results. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, tanning treatments, and skin irritants in the weeks leading up to your session. Keeping the tattooed area clean and hydrated is also important. We’ll provide specific instructions based on your skin type and the nature of your tattoo, ensuring you’re fully prepared for your treatment.
Tattoo Removal Surgery Recovery
Recovery from tattoo removal is relatively swift, with most patients resuming daily activities immediately. Post-treatment, the treated area may exhibit redness, swelling, and a temporary whitening of the skin, all of which are normal and subside within a few days. We’ll guide you through the aftercare process, emphasizing the importance of keeping the area clean, avoiding direct sun exposure, and using recommended skincare products to aid healing.

Additional FAQs
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
Laser tattoo removal is uncomfortable, but in general, it’s not nearly as painful as getting a tattoo. The laser pulses feel similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin.
How much pain or discomfort you experience will depend on your individual tolerance for pain and which area of the body is being treated. Some areas of the body, such as the torso and feet, are more painful to tattoo than others. These same areas will be more sensitive during tattoo removal.
To help minimize discomfort, your treatment team may apply a topical numbing cream before the procedure.
After the procedure, the treatment team will apply an antibiotic cream or ointment and bandage to the area. An ice pack can help soothe any discomfort and prevent swelling.
Are there any laser tattoo removal side effects?
Laser tattoo removal is one of the safest tattoo removal methods, and there are few side effects. As with any procedure, there are some risks, which can include:
- Infection at the removal sight
- Permanent scarring (rare)
- Hypopigmentation (paler skin in the treated area)
What is PicoSure®?
In contrast, nanosecond lasers used for tattoo removal emit powerful energy that burns the tattoo pigment. This action also damages the surrounding skin. The PicoSure® laser method delivers energy so rapidly that the tiny particles making up the pigment in tattoo ink vibrate and break apart without burning or harming your skin.
