Mastoplexy

We understand that the decision to undergo Mastopexy, or breast lift surgery, is deeply personal and motivated by the desire to reclaim your body’s contour and confidence. This procedure is designed to elevate and reshape breasts that have lost volume and firmness due to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations, restoring a more youthful and uplifted appearance. Our dedicated team of specialists combines the latest surgical techniques with a compassionate approach to ensure your journey is both empowering and transformative.

Who Should Consider Mastoplexy?

Ideal candidates for Mastopexy are individuals who are physically healthy, maintain a stable weight, and possess realistic expectations about the outcomes. Suitable candidates often experience sagging breasts with lost shape and volume, nipples that point downward or fall below the breast crease when unsupported, and asymmetry between the breasts. It’s important for candidates to be nonsmokers, or willing to quit, as smoking can hinder the healing process. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your medical history, aesthetic aspirations, and lifestyle to determine if Mastopexy is the right choice for you, ensuring your health and safety every step of the way.

What to Expect When Getting Mastoplexy

Undergoing Mastopexy begins with a personalized consultation where your surgeon will discuss your goals, evaluate your anatomy, and recommend the best surgical plan. The procedure typically lasts 2-3 hours, performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made following pre-discussed patterns, often around the areola or extending downward from the areola to the breast crease, allowing for the removal of excess skin and tissue. The nipple and areola are then repositioned to a more youthful height, and if needed, the size of the areola can be reduced. Post-surgery, you’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions, and our team will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and progress.

Preparing for your procedure

Preparing for Mastopexy involves several important steps to ensure your safety and the success of the surgery. We advise a pre-operative consultation to review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and possibly conduct lab tests. It’s crucial to stop smoking well in advance of the surgery and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements, as they can increase bleeding. We recommend arranging for someone to drive you home post-surgery and assist you for the first few days during your recovery. Preparing your home with a comfortable recovery area, including easy access to necessary items, will also contribute to a smoother healing process.

Mastoplexy Surgery Recovery

Recovery from Mastopexy varies among individuals, but generally involves a period of rest and limited activity to allow your body to heal properly. Immediately following the procedure, it’s common to experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with medications prescribed by your surgeon. You’ll be advised to wear a support bra to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal. Most patients can return to work and light activities within a week, although strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least a month. Our team will provide comprehensive aftercare instructions and support you through every step of your recovery journey.

Pain Management, What To Expect?

Pain and discomfort are normal after Mastopexy, but we’re is committed to ensuring your comfort throughout the recovery process. Pain management typically involves prescription medications to alleviate discomfort during the initial post-operative period. Over-the-counter pain relievers may also be recommended as you progress. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s guidance on medication use to avoid complications. Ice packs and rest can further reduce discomfort. Our team will closely monitor your pain levels and adjust your pain management plan as needed to promote a comfortable, swift recovery.

Ideal Results

The expected results of Mastopexy include lifted, firmer breasts with improved shape and contour. The position of the nipples and areolas will be enhanced to complement your new breast profile. While results are immediately visible, the final shape and position will continue to settle over a few months as swelling decreases and incision lines fade. The outcomes of Mastopexy are long-lasting, especially with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. However, gravity and aging will eventually alter breast shape over time. At Grossman Plastic Surgery, we’re dedicated to achieving results that not only enhance your appearance but also boost your self-esteem and body image.

Additional FAQs

How long does the procedure take?
A breast lift typically takes around three hours. The procedure requires the use of general anesthesia, but patients generally do not require an overnight stay. As with most cosmetic procedures, a breast lift is performed on an outpatient basis.
What is recovery like?
After undergoing a breast lift, your surgeon may ask you to wear supportive garments, which are used to minimize swelling. Your doctor may also place a drain in the breast tissue to remove excess fluid. Fluid build-up can prolong healing and can cause complications.

Patients can expect to feel mild discomfort and pain, as well as bruising and breast tenderness. You will be given pain medication to minimize discomfort. To give yourself sufficient healing time, plan to take about a week off of work.

Pain, bruising, and swelling will gradually decrease a week or two after surgery.

What are the risks and complications of breast lift surgery?
Any surgery poses certain risks and complications, including infection, poor incision healing, and fluid accumulation. To minimize the risk of these complications, it’s important to follow all pre-surgery protocols, including quitting smoking, not taking aspirin or herbal products, and eating a nutritious diet to promote healing.
Am I a candidate?
If you experience breast drooping, asymmetry, or downward-pointing nipples, you may be a candidate for breast lift surgery. It’s best to meet with a plastic surgeon in person to discuss your goals and to ensure that mastopexy will provide the results that you want.
