Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Revitalize Your Vision and Appearance

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting imperfections around the upper and lower eyelids. It can involve the removal or repositioning of excess skin, muscle, and fat, resulting in a more alert, youthful appearance. The procedure is tailored to address various concerns, including drooping eyelids that may impair vision, puffiness, and under-eye bags that contribute to a tired look. By precisely targeting these issues,

Blepharoplasty can dramatically enhance one’s facial expression and, in many cases, improve peripheral vision. Our state-of-the-art techniques ensure minimal scarring and natural-looking results, reflecting our commitment to excellence and patient satisfaction.

Who Should Consider Blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates for Blepharoplasty are individuals experiencing functional or cosmetic concerns related to their eyelids. This includes those with droopy upper eyelids that interfere with vision, persistent under-eye bags, or excess skin contributing to a tired or aged appearance. Candidates should be in good general health, non-smokers, or willing to quit, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes. During your consultation, we’ll conduct a thorough evaluation, considering your medical history, aesthetic goals, and unique facial structure to determine if Blepharoplasty is right for you.

What to Expect When Getting Blepharoplasty

The journey to rejuvenated eyes begins with a detailed consultation, where we discuss your goals, assess your eyelids, and craft a personalized treatment plan. The procedure itself, typically lasting one to three hours, can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs and comfort level. Our surgeons employ meticulous techniques to minimize visible scarring, strategically placing incisions along the natural folds of your eyelids or inside the lower eyelid. Following the surgery, you’ll spend a short period in our recovery area before being cleared to go home, guided by our comprehensive post-operative care instructions.

Preparing for your procedure

Preparing for Blepharoplasty involves several steps to ensure a smooth experience and optimal outcomes. We recommend scheduling a pre-operative appointment to review your medical history, discuss any medications you’re taking, and receive detailed pre- and post-operative instructions. It’s important to avoid certain medications and supplements that can increase bleeding, stop smoking well in advance of the surgery, and arrange for someone to drive you home post-procedure. Our team is here to support you every step of the way, providing personalized advice and answering any questions you may have.

    Blepharoplasty Surgery Recovery

Recovery from Blepharoplasty is generally swift and manageable, with most patients resuming normal activities within a week to ten days. Initial swelling and bruising are common but gradually subside over the first few weeks. We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions, including how to care for your eyes, medications to aid healing, and when to resume certain activities. Follow-up visits are crucial to monitor your progress and ensure a smooth healing process. Our team is committed to supporting you throughout your recovery, ensuring your comfort and satisfaction with the results.

          Additional FAQs

Why Do People Require Blepharoplasty Surgery?

As people age, the muscles supporting the eyelids will weaken and cause stretching. When this happens, fat and excess skin can collect below and above the eyelids which causes droopy upper lids, sagging eyebrows, and unsightly bags under one’s eyes. In addition to making people look their age (or in some cases, look older than they actually are) these effects can impact one’s side vision and other regions of one’s visual field. Blepharoplasty surgery can eliminate vision problems while also giving the eyes a more alert appearance, and enable one to look younger.

What Are the Risks of Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)?
Like any type of surgery, there is always some form of risk. However, when it comes to a blepharoplasty eyelid surgery, being highly knowledgeable in these risks is the leading factor for reducing any complications during surgery when it comes to this particular procedure. According to a March 2010 research paper by Dr. Gary J. Lelli and Dr. Richard Lisman, published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, careful evaluation with a heightened understanding of potential vision-threatening emergencies saw a significant reduction of blepharoplasty complications such as corneal abrasions and retrobulbar hemorrhaging. When cosmetic surgeons who specialize in eyelid surgeries have an advanced education of the potential complications that surround a blepharoplasty, risk factors are greatly eliminated, as the research paper’s conclusion states: “A thorough knowledge of potential complications of blepharoplasty surgery is necessary for the practicing aesthetic surgeon.”

When it comes to being deeply versed in potential complications with a blepharoplasty eyelid surgery, Dr. Peter Grossman is regarded as a national expert knowing how to avoid these risks by mastering the delicate work involved in this procedure.

What Takes Place During Blepharoplasty Surgery?
In most blepharoplasty surgeries, the surgeon begins by making a small incision along the eyelid’s fold. He then removes any excess muscle, fat, or skin before closing the incision. For the lower lid, an incision is made just below the natural crease of the lashes or inside the lower lid where excess fat, muscle, and skin is removed and the incision is closed. In the event the upper eyelid droops down close to the pupil, Dr. Grossman may perform an additional procedure along with the blepharoplasty called ptosis, which is designed to lift the eyelid and eliminate any extra skin that the eyelid may have. When you have your blepharoplasty consultation with Dr. Grossman, you will learn if this additional procedure (or any other) is recommended.
How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Blepharoplasty Surgery?
The experiences people have recovering from a blepharoplasty will vary, as each person has their own unique health profile, skin condition, and other factors that play a direct role in recovery. When you have your blepharoplasty consultation with Dr. Grossman, you will get a more accurate idea of what the recovery process will look like for you.

Although each person has their own recovery experience, most people will experience swollen eyelids for usually one to three weeks after surgery. In some cases there may be slight bruising, and the eye’s appearance can continue to improve over the frame of one to three months. Most people who have a blepharoplasty eyelid surgery report that they go back to work or resume public engagements in 10 to 14 days after having the surgery. This can also be predicated on the type of work that you do, and your personal comfort level in regards to people knowing you had the surgery.

Dr. Peter Grossman schedules follow-up appointments to ensure the eyes are properly healing, and he will make sure you are as comfortable as possible with pain management prescriptions.
